What is ASTRA EAGLE?

The Center for Advanced Technologies has been developing learning environments embedded into games and simulations for nearly a decade. We've found that students, both adult and K-12, respond extremely well to content delivered in a manner that is fun and compelling. Many computer-based learning systems make good use of multimedia, but where they fall short is in the lack of repeatability. In order for a reinforcement activity to truly sink in, the learner should be exposed to the content in a drill and repeat fashion. Unfortunately, this is usually a dry experience because most content doesn't hold up very well through repeated viewings.

The ASTRA EAGLE series of games is based on PSSA Standards and are designed for the reinforcement of those standards. The games are developed using Macromedia's Flash, which means the games run in any of the popular, recent Web browsers. They are light enough to use with a 56K dial-up connection, so students can access them from the classroom, the computer lab, or even from home. The games record student scores, total time spent in the game, and the number of questions answered correctly.

Students enjoy playing the games because they are fun to play. Teachers get a standards-based reinforcement tool to cover material they're required to cover, along with an embedded assessment tool to let them see at a glance how the students are performing. And for students who have Internet access from home, the games are a painless way to extend the school day and have fun doing it.

Students love to play games. Why not make the time spent playing pay off with an educational dividend? Take a look at the demos to see what ASTRA EAGLE is all about.
